Wythel Joy Cunningham, age 94, of Spring Lake, Michigan formerly of Battle Creek, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Baldwin House, Senior Living Center under the care of hospice and his loving family. He was born in Booneville, Mississippi, on October 17, 1928, son of Hester and Alma (Wilemon) Cunningham, both of whom preceded him in death. Following his graduation from Newsite, Mississippi High School, he relocated to the Battle Creek area where he exchanged vows with Marcia Talmage and shared 60 years of marriage with her prior to her death in 2013.  He worked for Michigan Carton and its related companies for many years where he was a Boiler Operator. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church for many years, enjoyed gardening, and was a voracious reader.       

Wythel leaves to cherish his memory his caring daughter, Joy (Mike) Ponce of Fruitport; grandchildren Jeff (Amy), Jason (Evan), Michelle (Michael), Ben (Mychael), and Nathan (Torei); and 6 great grandchildren; a former daughter-in-law, Gayle (Daniel) Wells; a sister, Jimmie Raye Whitehead of Mississippi; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Neal Cunningham.  

A Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday, June, 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Urbandale Baptist Church, 19 Geiger Avenue, Battle Creek, Michigan 49037, with Pastor Casey Arnouts officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.  Private interment will take place at Banfield Cemetery in Johnstown Township, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife.
