Listen to Obituary

Virginia Irene (Nelson) Trierweiler, age 94, of Ionia, Michigan, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of May 6, 2026, under hospice care at Maple Ridge Manor Assisted Living Center. She was born on September 1, 1931, in Remus, Michigan, daughter of William Mitchel and Opal Eva (Sniff) Nelson, both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Ionia High School, walking across the stage at the Ionia Theater to receive her diploma, since back in those days, there was not yet a gymnasium big enough to hold commencement ceremonies. Virginia married Harold F. Trierweiler, with whom she started and raised her family. He preceded her in death in 1982. She worked for many years as a press operator at the Chrysler Trim Plant in Lyons. Many would also recognize her from her work at the Wash King in Ionia where she enjoyed meeting new people and forging many friendships. She was a hard worker and took her jobs and the commitments of raising her family and keeping her home to heart and kept that the focus of her life.

Virginia’s life and legacy will be cherished by her dear children, and Mark A. (Marilee) Trierweiler of Alto, and Brenda (Gary) Pung of Ionia,; her beloved grandchildren, Matthew (Emily) Trierweiler, Landon Trierweiler, Maliree (Sam) Lang, Lindsey (Jason) Roth, Jessica (Tom) Reisbig, and Brett Pung; great grandchildren, Austin, Penelope, Victoria, Olive, Charlie, Lila, Archer, and Haven; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, and spouse, Harold, she was preceded in death by brothers, Max Nelson, Vern Nelson, and Ralph Nelson, and a sister, Janice Stiles.

A Celebration of Life gathering and luncheon will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at The Steele Street Hall, 115 S. Steele Street, Ionia, Michigan 48846.
