Thomas H. "Tom" Jones

After a three-year battle with cancer, Thomas Howard Jones II passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family. Tom was born on March 10, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, to Thomas “Howard” and Lois (Agner) Jones. He spent most of his life in Belding, Michigan, where he built a life centered on family, hard work, faith, and service to his community.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Maggie Jones; his eldest son Tom (Laura) Jones III of Grand Rapids, and their children Addison, Avery and Allie, and his younger son, Marty (Erica) Jones of Caledonia and their children Madelyn, Oliver and Juliette.

For more than 50 years, Tom owned and operated Jones Auto Parts in Belding. Through his business, he became much more than a familiar face in the community. He was a trusted friend and neighbor, known for his work ethic, practical wisdom, and willingness to help. Generations of customers knew they could count on Tom for advice, support, and a helping hand.

Tom believed strongly in giving back to the community he called home. Over the years, he served on the Belding High School Board and the Belding City Council, supported St. Joseph’s Parish and the Knights of Columbus, participated in the Jaycees and advocated for his industry through the Michigan Auto Parts Association. His many years of service reflected his belief that strong communities are built through involvement, leadership and caring for others.

Tom was also a doer of projects and happiest when he could put his skills to work helping family and friends. Whether building, repairing, fixing, or tackling a home improvement challenge, no project was too big or too small. His children and grandchildren will remember him as someone they could always turn to for guidance, encouragement, and a little practical know-how.

For many years, Tom enjoyed Thursday nights as a member of the Candlestone’s golf league, sharing countless rounds, laughs, and memories with his longtime golf partner and dear friend, Lee Satterlee.

Above all, Tom’s greatest joy was his family. He shared 59 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Maggie. Together, they built a life filled with love, devotion, laughter, and cherished memories. He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather who treasured time with his family and took great pride in watching his children and grandchildren grow.

Those who knew Tom will remember his steady presence, quiet strength, sense of humor, generosity, and unwavering commitment to the people he loved. He led by example and leaves behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, faith, perseverance and service.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lois Jones, his mother- and father-in-law, Martin and Beth Wacha and a brother-in-law, Dave Bremer.

He is survived by sisters-in-law, Marie Bremer, Marcia (Kelley) Slentz, and Marlene Wacha; and many extended family members, dear friends, former co-workers and customers, and members of the Belding Community whose lives he touched.

Though Tom will be missed, his family finds comfort in the memories they shared, what values he instilled, and the lasting impact of a life devoted to family, faith, hard work, and community. His was a life well-lived, and his influence will continue through the family he cherished and the community he helped shape.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding. A Rosary Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. to conclude the evening. Tom’s Funeral mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 409 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan, 48809.
