Roxie Fae (Hale) Greenway, age 77, of Belding, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital in East Grand Rapids, following a long illness surrounded by those she loved. She was born on February 28, 1947, in Waldo, Kentucky, daughter of Norman and Virgie (Wireman) Hale both of whom preceded her in death. She married Charles Greenway of Greenville, Michigan on August 30, 1975. Roxie relocated to Belding with her family while in her youth and graduated from Belding High School. She continued her education by completing some college coursework and various workshops to support her special interests. Roxie worked at Jolly-Kids Clothing and Country Roads furniture for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress and potter specializing in porcelain. She was very creative and inspired throughout the years to launch several businesses with her family including refinishing furniture, a costume shoppe designing and creating contest winning one of a kind costumes, porcelain doll shoppe, and she still kept busy providing mending and seamstress services from her home. She had a passion for antiques and old houses. This was best displayed in the “money pit" she talked her late husband into buying and the do-it-yourself restoration projects she continued after his passing.
One of Roxie's passions was caring for children, and not just the friends her children dragged in to become their second mother. In addition to being a foster parent, she ran an in-home day care for many years prior to retirement, impacting the lives of many children and families in the area. She had a beautiful voice and a appreciation of music with a love for karaoke. Roxie had a great sense of humor, quick wit, overly generous nature, and loved spending time with family and friends.
She leaves behind her dear children, Christopher (Sandra) Hale of Orleans, Virgie (Paul) Jones of Tustin, Charles VanderMel of Lakeview, Candice (Terry) Heath of Belding, Penelope Greenway of Belding, Shana Greenway of Ionia, and Gabrielle Greenway of Portland; 26 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; siblings, Mildred Yoder, Earlie Mae Wiggins, Frieda (Tony) Zambrano, Sharon (E.J.) Watkins, Barbara (Richard) Martin, Paul Hale, Mary (Larry) Kelley, Norman Hale Jr., Teddy (Crystal) Hale, Norma (Paul) Dawson, and Hope Hale; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Roxie was preceded in death by siblings Farrell Hale, Michael Hale, Deborah Miller, Nicholas Hale, and infant Velerie Jean Hale; her beloved nephews Kenneth Clayton, Dale Clayton and Kevin Clayton.
