Nancy Lou Marie Huey

Nancy Lou Marie (Murphy) Huey, age 84, of Sheridan, formerly of Belding, passed away at home on July 13, 2023, surrounded by her loving family under hospice care. She was born on August 16, 1939, in Belding, Michigan, daughter of Joseph and Adelaide (Neverill) Murphy, both of whom preceded her in death.

Nancy attended Belding Area Schools, graduating with the Class of 1957. She continued her education in nursing at Grand Rapids Community College, with her clinical work at St. Mary’s Hospital.  She then put her skills to work as a Charge Nurse at several area hospitals and worked at Extruded Metals retiring with 27 years in Industrial Nursing.  She also worked for a time caring for patients at Metron of Belding Nursing Home. Nancy enjoyed life and had many interests and hobbies, including motorcycle trips, lake living, and just spending time relaxing on her houseboat near Muskegon.  Nancy and Lorenzo also had several exotic pets including a lynx, lion, and monkey. She looked forward to holiday decorating, covering the house from top to bottom.  She and the grandkids always looked forward to summer when she would host them at Horseshoe and Derby Lakes. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years and the Carson City American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.   

The life and memories of Nancy will be cherished by her beloved husband, Lorenzo, her children John (Christine) Ray of Belding, Carrie (Scott) Yeomans of Gowen, Catherine Ray (Kevin Nelson) of Georgia, and Lorenda (Mike) Davis of Sheridan; grandchildren Jordan (Jessica) Ray, James Ray, Laura Ray, Casey Corey (Dan Heath), Amy (Carlos) Guerrero, Daniel “DJ” (Laura) Corey Jr., Nathan Yeomans, Elizabeth (Jared) Chambers, Garret (Stephanie) Huey, Michael (Isabel) Davis and Mekenzie  Davis (Caleb Sobie); great grandchildren Aidan, Adelynn, Vada, Everleigh, Madison, Tyler, Elaina, Oliver, Jolee, Caroline, and Louis; a sister JoAnn (Lloyd) Baylis: and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Carol Beech, a brother, Joseph “Pete” Murphy and a stepson, Joseph Huey.   

Services are planned for Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, with Pastor Melissa Wagner officiating. The family will greet visitors at 11:00 a.m. and service will begin at 12 Noon, with a luncheon to follow. Private interment is being planned at Tuttle Cemetery near Ionia.  Those wishing to express sympathy through a memorial donation are welcomed to consider a donation in Nancy’s memory to Corewell Health Hospice or the “B” Foundation.  Envelopes will be available at the services or by contacting Verdun Family Funeral Home for additional information at (616) 794-1300 or verdunfh.com.
