Michael J. “Mick” Capman, age 72, of Muskegon, formerly of Parchment, died at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo on December 20, 2016. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on September 7, 1944. He was preceded in death by his dear parents, Ralph Kenneth and Anna Marie (Hoover) Capman. He graduated from Parchment High School, and then served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he worked for the Parchment Police Department, retired from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department and then started and operated a successful business training law enforcement organizations across the country and around the world how to manage their forensic investigation processes. Mick married Monica Lynn Shirey on October 14, 2000, and she survives. He was a dedicated member of Central United Methodist Church in Muskegon, getting involved in many projects and activities there. He was a contributing member of several civic, veterans and social organizations including the Fraternal Order of Police, VFW 3195 in Norton Shores, American Legion Post 28, in Grand Haven, the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Lawmen Motorcycle Club. Mick’s family and friends remember him as gregarious, generous, perhaps to a fault, positive, passionate about things he believed in and he did not let challenging situations bother him. He was not one to stand by on the sidelines and if something needed to be done, he would jump in and do it, and his credo could be boiled down to; God, Country, Family and Friends.
In addition to his dear wife, Monica, Mick leaves to cherish his memory, his siblings, Grant (Beth) Solomon, Sharon (Al) Sikkenga, Sally Ann Doolittle and Richard Strong; and several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Dale Capman and Jim Solomon.
