Laura M. Scofield

Laura Marie Scofield, age 57, of Belding, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Corewell Health, United Memorial Hospital in Greenville. She was born on August 12, 1968, daughter of James Donald and Nancy Lee (Rounsville) Gustavsen. She graduated from Belding High School and completed an associate degree in criminal justice from Montcalm Community College. She put that degree to work serving as a Corrections Officer at Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends and an occasional hunting trip. She always loved caring for and playing with her dogs. Through the years she had many toy poodles, and most recently her furry friend was Molly, an energetic Golden Doodle. Laura will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Laura leaves to cherish her memory, her caring husband, Doug; her children, Jason Linssey of Grand Rapids, Leah (Carl) Wyatt of Stafford, Georgia, Danyelle Scofield of Belding and Joseph Scofield of Belding; grandchildren, Isabelle, Austin, Tristen, Evelyn, Ty, Macie, Reelynn, Kalob, and Kaylyn; siblings, Heather (Tad) Simon of Stanton, Michigan and James (Mandi) Gustavsen of Hiram, Georgia; her father James D. Gustavsen of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Lee Bearer and her grandparents.

A Memorial Visitation will take place at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan 48809, on Saturday, January 10, 2026. Laura’s family will greet visitors at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Memorial donations honoring Laura’s life are recommended to the SMAS Patient Assistance Foundation.
