James Leroy “Jim” Zwerk, age 66, of Belding, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, February 27, 2021. He was born on May 9, 1954, in Ionia, Michigan, son of Raymond and Natalie (Johnston) Zwerk, both of whom preceded him in death. He attended Ionia schools and worked for more than 20 years with the City of Belding’s Department of Public Works. Jim married the love of his life, Dorothea Ann Helsel, and has shared more than 46 years of marriage with her. Having grown up on a farm, Jim became a big fan of the great outdoors at an early age. That continued throughout his life, as he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved to use his metal detector to hunt for treasure, and also did some gold prospecting and logged countless miles riding his BSA motorcycle back in the day.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothea, his dear son, Jason Zwerk of Belding; three brothers, Gordon Zwerk of Saranac, Mike (Cathy) Zwerk of Parrington and John (Sara) Zwerk of Lake Odessa; a brother-in-law, Ray (Cindy) Helsel of Fenwick; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and great friends.
