Flora L. Schantz

Flora Lundborg Schantz, age 91, of Rockford, formerly of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, August 3, 2024. She was born on September 30, 1932, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, daughter of Erwin William and Flora (Lundborg) Meitz, both of whom preceded her in death. Flora graduated from Grand Rapids Central High School and completed a two year-course at Kendall School of Design in Grand Rapids. She worked for many years as a photographer in the graphic design department at Lear Aerospace in Grand Rapids. She married Larry Schantz; together they had one son, Lawrence Eugene. Larry preceded her in death. In her spare time Flora was an avid reader, particularly fond of Agatha Christie and Louis L’Amour novels. She dabbled with painting in casein acrylic paints, sewing, word puzzles and watched old western movies whenever she could. She loved dogs and, of course, going for coffee at Big Boy’s. 

 Memories of Flora will be cherished by her siblings, Carol Wells, Rev. Fr. Martin (Ulrike) Meitz and Gail (Rev. Richard) Langhorst; a dear friend and caregiver Russell Havens; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Helen Lou, who died in infancy, Jo Ann Jane Meitz, and the Rev. Erwin W. Meitz, Jr.

 Visitation will take place on Monday August 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan, with a Funeral Service beginning at 12 noon.
