Ernest Leroy “Ernie” Harris, age 83, of Belding, passed away on March 19, 2026, at Corewell Health, United Hospital in Greenville, following a brief illness. He was born on August 12, 1942, one of nine children of Ernest L. and Sarah Jane (Daniels) Harris, both of whom preceded him in death. He attended Lake Odessa Schools and worked in several capacities during his lifetime including manufacturing laborer, janitorial services and he was self-employed as a painter for several years. He loved to fish and enjoyed many great outings on his own and with friends including his close friend, Gary Rowland. Ernie lived in Belding for many years and was a regular patron at the American Legion where shared countless good times and formed many friendships.
Ernie is survived by his daughters Sylvia (Sean) Alkire and Katrina (Todd) Underwood; grandchildren Caitlin Alkire, Holden Underwood, Tiffany Underwood, Calvin Orr, Cole Underwood and Seth Underwood; 3 great grandchildren; a brother Roger (Imogene) Harris; a sister Barbara Brown; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including special friend Ty LaMar. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Norman, Larry, Bob, Ken, Doris and Betty.
A Life Celebration Luncheon is being planned for the near future. The details will be added to this site when it is scheduled. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the family for assistance with expenses or a charity of the donor’s choice.
