Candi L. Bussell

Candi Lynn Bussell (Hopkins), age 48, of Ionia, formerly of Palo, passed away unexpectedly at home on July 5, 2025. She was born in Carson City, Michigan, daughter of Gary Solomon and Bonnie Lou Hopkins (Ricks), both of whom preceded her in death. After attending high school in Pennsylvania, she continued her education at Ross Medical Institute where she completed Medical Billing Certification coursework and worked in several capacities through the years. She enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping and loved to cook for family. She always looked forward to her “Eats & Sweets”. As she would say, Candi is sweeter than sugar”.

She is survived by her dear children Kayla Kerkstra, Travis and McKenna Bussell of Ionia; grandchildren, Kaedyn Peters and Taevin Pak; siblings Gary Hopkins of Pierson, Tammi Zambrano of Portland, Christopher Hopkins of Grand Rapids, and Jody Hopkins of Belding; special nephews and niece Dylan, Trenton and Taylor Zambrano, along with Skyler, Blake and Trevor Hopkins; great nephews Carter, Cobin and Tatum Zambrano; lifelong friend, Duane Kerkstra; aunts, and many cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents.

A Life Celebration will take place on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding with Pastor Ed Milan officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. and the Service will begin at 1:30 p.m. A luncheon will take place at the Belding V.F.W.
