Avery Eugene Ortiz, age 19, of Orleans, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, due to an asthma episode that he was not able to recover from. He was born December 3, 2005, son of Jerusiah Jean Batey
and Terry Angel Ortez, both of whom survive to mourn his passing. He attended Greenville High School and went to work at MAGNA Manufacturing in Alto, where he immediately endeared himself to his co-workers and made many friends. This was no surprise as Avery’s sweet and loving manner touched the hearts of those he came in contact, always making a huge positive impact. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in season and was an avid gamer, year-round. He loved spending time with family and friends, hanging out as often as he could with his dear friend, Ryan VanAlstine. He will be dearly missed by all who had the joy of knowing him.
In addition to his mother Jerusiah (Donald Pinckney) Holmgren of Orleans, and father Terry (Jamie Hoisington) Ortez of Greenville, the memory of Avery will be cherished by his dear siblings Cameron (Jacque Herzog) Ortiz of Greenville, Felicity Ortiz of Orleans, Ronni Bark of Orleans and Rylee Bark of Orleans; his grandparents Gordon & Cindy Batey of Greenville, Dick Ortez of Greenville and Mary DeGram of Lyons; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Avery’s family has not yet finalized plans to celebrate his life and legacy. When those plans are established, they will be updated to this site. Those wishing to express sympathy are encouraged to consider a contribution in his memory to the American Lung Association or the asthma related charity of the donor’s choice.
