Ann M. Walters

Ann M. Walters, age 85, of Baldwin, passed away on Thursday, August 4 2026, at Corewell Health – Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was born on April 18, 1941, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, daughter of Wayne and Marie (Wheeler) Shorter, both of whom preceded her in death. Ann graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and married Don Walters in 1959. The couple relocated to Baldwin, Michigan in 1989, where Ann worked for the Lake County Star Newspaper and supported many worthy organizations including the Girl Scouts and Hospice of Michigan. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and gardening.

Ann leaves to cherish her life and legacy, children,Mark (Connie) of Kendall, MI., Eric Walters of Kalamazoo, MI., and Deborah (Mike) Meinema of Kalamazoo, MI. She was also blessed to have three “adopted sons” James, Gary, & Dan. In addition to her children, she is survived by eight grandchildren, Justin (Becky) Brownell, Connor Walters, Keegan Walters, Austin Walters, Chase Walters, Ryan (Jen) Walters, Emily Meinema, and Jerod Meinema; and five great grandchildren, Adrianna, Maddy, Landen, Evelyn, and Aila; a sister Sue (Bernie) Gunnett of Salt Lake City, Utah; a great-niece Danielle Sorter; and several other family members and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Don, her husband of 44 years; and two brothers, William R. Shorter and John A. Shorter.
