Alvin E. Williams, Jr.

Alvin Elwood Williams, Jr., age 72, of Belding, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. He was born in Belding on November 7, 1953, son of Alvin E. and Evelyn L. (Ward) Williams, both of whom preceded him in death. He attended Belding Schools and served his country in the United States Military. He worked for many years for Gibsons Manufacturing/Electrolux and retired when the plant relocated out of the area. Following his retirement, he spent most of his time in service to others. If he was not helping someone with a project or a repair of some sort, he was running an errand for them or stopping to check on a family member or friend to make sure they had everything they needed. Alvin loved to talk, which meant it took hours to get through the grocery store because he used the opportunity ‘shoot the breeze’ with everyone he saw. He will be dearly missed.

Alvin will be missed by many including his children, Brenda (Trever) Husted of Greenville, Katrina Ann Williams of Ionia, Kristy Jo (Modesto) Mata of Ionia; a step-daughter Sandra Miller of Greenville; his prior wife and mother of his children, Geneva Umbenhour of Ionia; grandchildren Jolean Williams, Jalen Salas, Joshua (Mercedes) Salas, Triben Wieland, Haylee Williams, Daniel (Jinyka) Williams, Rosaisela Vazquez, Enrique Vazquez; step grandchildren Tia Kelley, Samantha Miller and Carl John Miller II; 11 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren; a brother George H. Williams of Greenville; 2 nephews and one niece; and many cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Williams and a sister, Barbara Rood, and a nephew Michael Williams.

Services for Alvin will take place at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan 48809, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Visitation will take place beginning at 1:00 p.m. and Service will start at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Ed Milam officiating.
