Theodore J. "Theo" Gifford

February 4, 1951 — August 7, 2021

Theodore James “Theo” Gifford, age 70, of Holland, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at SKLD Medical Residence in Zeeland following a long dementia-decline illness. He was born in Long Beach, California, on February 4, 1951, the son of Loyal Douglas and Irene (Rader) Gifford, both of whom preceded him in death. Theo married Sara L. Smart over 39 years ago and she survives in Holland. He was a talented Fiberglass technician and used his craft while working at S-2 Yachts in Michigan for many years. He also repaired trailers for Brinks Truck Line and spent time with Buis Mattress manufacturing bedding for them. He also worked with Mark Tucker Masonry learning the masonry trade. In general, he loved working with his hands to complete a quality finished product. One of his great pleasures was helping his family and many friends with projects that they needed assistance with. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Theo had previously been a member of East Saugatuck CRC and more recently for about the last ten years was an active member of Providence CRC of Holland.

In addition to his dear and caring wife, Sara, Theo leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Theodore J. (Brenda) Gifford of Lancaster, California; a brother, Douglas Loyal (Chris) Gifford of Pueblo, Colorado; a half-sister, Tracy (Mark) Rutter of Saugatuck, Michigan; a brother-in-law, James L. (Karen) Smart of Fallon, Nevada; and a sister-in-law, Cindy (Larry) Gander of Grants Pass, Oregon; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, James L. Smart and Sara C. Smart.

Private family memorial services and interment are being planned. Those considering an expression of sympathy are welcomed to consider a memorial contribution in Theo’s memory to Providence CRC Charity Fund.
