August 1, 1938 — July 13, 2017

Sue Ann Pendell, age 78, of Rockford, formerly of Middleton, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at The Sanctuary at St. Mary’s Nursing Home following a long illness, under the care of Hospice and her loving family. She was born on August 1, 1938, in Crystal, Michigan, and was the beloved daughter of Vivian Spalding DeYoung. She attended Crystal Elementary Schools and then attended and graduated from Carson City High School with the class of 1956. She continued her education earning a Licensed Practical Nurse certification and worked in nursing homes providing long term care to residents. She was a member of United Brethren Church in Middleton for many years, where she enjoyed one of her passions, which was singing. She had many pastimes including beading and jewelry making and she loved to write, keeping a journal for much of her life’s activities and wrote poetry as well. She loved good food and going to B.I.N.G.O. as well. Sue and her spouse enjoyed camping and playing cards with family and friends, including a special cousin. She was fun-loving and generous, always bringing a little gift when she came to visit. When a niece of hers had a house fire she was off to the yard sales buying up items by the lot to help her get her new home furnished and stocked. She will be dearly missed.

The memory of Sue will be cherished by her dear family including, children, Steven R. (Lori) Pendell of Clearwater, Florida, Daniel E. (Glenda) Pendell of Ithica, Michigan and Beverly J. Pendell of Rockford, Michigan; several grandchildren; five siblings; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by infant twin daughters, Susan Maxine and Rosalee Mae; a brother; and an infant sister.

A Graveside Committal Service will take place on Monday July 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Crystal Cemetery, with Reverend Larry Austin officiating. Those wishing to express sympathy are welcomed to consider a memorial contribution in Sue’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, A Women’s Crisis Help Center or the Children’s Charity of the donor’s choice.
