Robert A Nason

August 19, 1915 — July 9, 2018

Robert A. Nason, age 102, of Belding, formerly of Fenwick, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on July 9, 2018. He was being cared for by his loving family and hospice at Metron of Belding Nursing Home. Robert was born in Berlin, Michigan, on August 19, 1915, the son of Frank and Lena (Osburn) Nason, both of whom preceded him in death. He graduated from Cedar Springs High School with the Class of 1933 and continued his education to study pre-med, at both Michigan State University and Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, where he played football. Robert returned home to farm most of his life. He was a grain farmer and raised turkeys, sheep and other animals, but his primary focus was caring for his dairy herd. He married Florence Tower on December 29, 1942, in Saginaw, and she preceded him in death on December 2, 2006. Robert found love again and married Marion Harvey on February 28, 2011, and she survives. He was a quiet man, dedicated to Christ and to his church. He helped to establish what is now Green Corners Baptist Church. The congregants met at Bob’s home prior to the Church having its own building. He supported and steered the effort all along the way and was a faithful and giving member throughout his life. He was wise in his counsel and positively impacted everyone he had contact with, and no matter their age, he could connect and help them consider ways to improve. He enjoyed playing games, quiet walks and any time spent with family. In his gentle quietness, he found plenty of time for telling funny stories and jokes and one of his favorite things was to surprise someone with a great practical joke.

The memory of Robert will be cherished by his dear family including his wife, Marion of Belding; his daughter, Elizabeth “Betsie” (Russell) Edwards of Sheridan; his grandson Shawn Russell of Sheridan and a great-grandson, Jacob Russell of Florida. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Noe of Lowell; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents and first wife, Robert was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Miller and Hazel Gilbert and a brother, “Buddy” Nason.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 12, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Verdun Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan 48809. Robert’s funeral will take place on Friday, July 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Green Corners Baptist Church, 4998 Belding Road, Belding, Michigan 48809, with Pastor Paul Leslie officiating. The family will also greet visitors at the church on Friday morning prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Green Cemetery, next to the Church. Those wishing to express sympathy are welcomed to consider a memorial contribution in Robert’s memory to the wishes of the family.
