Rex Allen Johnson, age 69, of Belding, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, following a long illness, on Friday, January 13, 2017. He was born in Edmore, Michigan the son of Howard Wesley and Donna (Taylor) Johnson. He lived in Illinois during his youth and graduated from Potomac, Illinois Schools. Following high school he served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his return from the service, he came to Michigan and attended Montcalm Community College. He married Terry Lee Groom in Belding on March 24, 1978 and she survives. Rex retired from Electrolux in 2003 with more than 30 years of service. He was a member of UAW Local 137 and serving in officer positions, was a life member of the V.F.W. and was a member of the Disabled American Veteran’s. Rex took very good care of his family and home and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

In addition to his dear wife, Terry, Rex leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Nikolas (Kelly) Johnson of Lansing, Philip (Kelly) Johnson of Holt, Tammy (Steve) Melcher of Manchester and Rodney Gregory of Belding; grandchildren, Brett (Molly) Melcher, Brittany Melcher, Coty Gregory, Dawsen Gregory, Sierra (Corey) Johnson, Hunter Johnson, Sydney Johnson and Kara Johnson, great grandchildren Miles and Nolan; siblings Dan Johnson and Bonnie Johnson; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, John Johnson and Cathy Johnson.

Interment services with Military Honors is being planned to take place in the spring at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Please contact the funeral home or a member of the family for additional information regarding services. Those wishing to express sympathy are welcomed to consider a contribution in Rex’s memory to the Vietnam Freedom Wall project in Belding.
