Phyllis Ann Gross

Phyllis Ann ( Umlor ) Gross, age 81, of Stanton, passed away at home on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, following a long illness under the tender loving care of her family and Spectrum Health Hospice. She was born on July 18, 1939, in Conklin, Michigan, to Edmund John and Dorothy Eva (Zimmer) Umlor, both of whom preceded her in death.
She graduated from Coopersville High School with the Class of 1958, and just a couple short months later, married her sweetheart, Jerome John Gross, at St. Joseph Church in Wright, Michigan, and the couple has shared nearly 63 years of marriage. In addition to keeping her home and raising their family, Phyllis worked for many years as a Quality Control Inspector for Ore-Ida Foods. She also kept busy with several hobbies and pastimes including cooking, baking and gardening. She also enjoyed bowling, fishing and would pack a bag whenever anyone suggested traveling. She enjoyed playing poker and a planned or impromptu trip to the casino. A life-long Catholic, Phyllis was a faithful member, attending St. Mary’s Church in Edmore and St. Bernadette of Lourdes Catholic Church in Stanton.

In addition to her husband, Jerome, Phyllis leaves to cherish her memory her children James Gross, Dennis Gross, Jeffrey ( Diane ) Gross, Cynthia Gross and Gerianne (Tony) Clark; 11 grandsons; 13 great grandchildren; siblings Richard Umlor, David Umlor, Barbara Miller, and Marilyn Klein; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Connie Clark a sister, Joanie Hubert and three brothers-in-law, Charles Gross, Vincent Gross and Leonard Gross.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at St. Bernadette of Lourdes Catholic Church in Stanton, with Fr. Dominic Tirkey the Celebrant. The family will receive friends at the Church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Private interment will take place at Day Township Cemetery in McBride. Those wishing to express sympathy are welcomed to consider a contribution in Phyllis’ memory to St. Mary’s-St. Bernadette of Lourdes Parish or Spectrum Health Hospice.
