Joyce A. Outman

Joyce Ann (Koerner) Outman, age 79, of Belding, passed away at Spectrum Health, Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, following a long illness. She was born on October 4, 1943, in Grand Rapids, daughter of Alois H. and Eleanore (Placzek) Koerner, both of whom preceded her in death. She was raised in Wyoming, Michigan, graduating from Godwin Heights High School, with the Class of 1961. Joyce had a plan to become a licensed beautician, and completed coursework, but she was unable to pursue that path and eventually worked at Mary’s Flower Shop and Spurgeon’s Department Store for many years. She also worked in a distribution warehouse for Admiral Stores for several years. She married Richard “Dick” Outman on July 11, 1964, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and he survives. Joyce was an avid bowler and a great downhill skier, able to conquer pretty much any hill she attempted. She enjoyed toll-painting, played guitar, loved to travel, and to spend social time with friends. Dick gave her a cat for her 60th birthday and it started a great love affair with many feline friends. She adopted and cared for many cats over the years since then. She was a long-time member of Shiloh Community Church.

Joyce will be missed by her dear, husband Dick, and children, Todd R. (Gina) Outman of Davisburg, Christopher J. (Melissa) Outman of Lowell and Jamie J (Tonya) Outman of Marlette; grandchildren Demi, Perry, Olivia, Vaughn, Tate, Kyle, Scottlynn, and Jacobi; siblings June (Bob) Roland of Georgia, Jacqueline Louvis of Georgia and Jimmy (Sherri) Koerner of Arizona; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Visitation will take place on Monday, November 7, from 2:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan. The Funeral will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Shiloh Community Church, 8197 Heth Street, Orleans, Michigan 48865, with Pastor James Floyd officiating. The family will also greet visitors at the Church for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Private interment will take place at River Ridge Cemetery, Belding. Those who might express their sympathy through a memorial donation are welcomed to consider the Alvah N. Belding Memorial Library, Pet Tales Animal Rescue, or Shiloh Community Church.
