Jacquelyn “Jackie” Rae LaMarte, age 70, Alto, passed away at home on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, surrounded by her loving family following a brief battle with cancer. She was born on May 6, 1950, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, daughter of John Cornelius and Mary Louise (Schmid) Vander Roer, both of whom preceded her in death. Jackie graduated from Kenowa Hills High School and completed courses at Grand Rapids Community College. She went to work with St. Mary’s Hospital as a Billing Clerk and was employed there for more than 37 years, which was a great source of pride for her. Jackie married Alan James LaMarte in Rockford, Michigan, on July 22, 1983.

She enjoyed the many years they spent boating and camping at Snows Lake Campground where they had other family and many friends who she looked forward to seeing there and connecting with each season. Jackie also enjoyed her time at home, where she often hosted family for holidays, birthdays and countless impromptu visits. Jackie was outspoken and spirited, and cherished her family dearly. She also had a soft spot for her four-legged friends, and her two Cocker Spaniels, Mollie and Farley, who will miss her.

Many memories of Jackie will be cherished by her loving family, including her husband Alan, a son, Jeffrey A. (Brenda) Vander Roer of Greenville, Michigan; granddaughters, Alyxzandra Vander Roer of Greenville and Samantha Jo Vander Roer of Grand Rapids; siblings Linda (Jim) Stellema of Spring Lake, Mary Beth (Mike) Isaac of Stanwood, David (Roxanne) Vander Roer of Grand Rapids and Maria “Jeanne” (Jim Chandler) Vander Roer of Grand Rapids; several brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
