Charles Curtis “Curt” Holmes

Charles Curtis “Curt” Holmes, age 86, of Belding, passed away at home under the care of his loving family and hospice on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. He was born on July 29, 1931, in Blytheville, Arkansas, the son of Bennie Love and Annie Lee (Sands) Holmes. He attended Burdette High School in Burdette, Arkansas and then served his country in the 1300th Air Police Squadron of the United States Air Force, from July of 1950 to September of 1953. Curt married Bonnie Jean McConnell on August 30, 1957, in Tallapoosa, Missouri, and shared 58 years of marriage with her prior to her death in March of 2016. Curt worked in several capacities of manufacturing management for several companies including Chrysler Motors and Federal Mogul. Curt and Bonnie spent a year in China while he helped established a manufacturing facility there for Federal Mogul. Following his retirement, he provided lawn care services to many people and became a familiar face to many through his years delivering pizza for Your House Of Pizza. He also cared for area families by assisting with funeral services at Verdun Family Funeral Home for several years. He was a faithful member of Green Corners Baptist Church, for 14 years, where he nurtured his strong knowledge of the Bible and close relationship with his Lord and Savior.

Curt leaves his dear family to cherish his memory including his children, Charles K. “Chuck” (Paula) Holmes of Shelby Township, Michigan and Ellen (David) Dakin of Greenville; grandchildren, Shaun (Jamie) Holmes, Colleen (Bryan) Adams, Meagan (Tom) Jessop, Laura (Sean) Canham and Rebecca (Aaron) Caverley: great grandchildren Brayden and Addelyn and Chase; special “grandchildren” who he loved and treated as his own, Grace and Jack Verdun; a sister, Millie Marie Holmes Mahan of Gladwin; a sister-in-law, Donna Holmes of Blytheville; countless nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear and devoted friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers James Henry Holmes, Robert Richardson Holmes, Ernest Elmer Holmes, Samuel Sherlock Holmes, Walter Washington Holmes, Herbert Hoover Holmes, Louis Lee Holmes; and sisters, Eunice Elizabeth Holmes Henson, Ida Inez Holmes Cable, Iva Irene Holmes Pritchard and Elsie Eleanor Holmes Beelman.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge St., Belding, Michigan. Curt’s Funeral Service will take place at Green Corners Baptist Church, 4998 Belding Road, Belding, Michigan, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, with Pastor Paul Leslie officiating, and a Eulogy offered by Fr. Darrel Kempf. The family will also greet visitors at the church on Tuesday morning prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. After the service there will be a luncheon at the church followed by private interment services at River Ridge Cemetery in Belding. Memorial contributions are recommended to the Youth Programs at Green Corners Baptist Church or Hospice of Michigan.
