Bryan Eugene Shook

November 18, 1929 — September 29, 2018

Bryan Eugene Shook, age 88, of Fenwick, entered the presence of God in Heaven on September 29, 2018. He had been being cared for at home by his loving family and hospice. He was born on November 18, 1929, in Walker Township, near Grand Rapids to Gale and Mina (Wiegel) Shook, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Cletus Eleen Witherell on June 3, 1950 and shared 68 beautiful years of marriage with her. After completing his education, he went to work for General Motors for many years becoming a Tool and Die Maker. After retiring from GM, he continued strengthening his relationship with his Lord and Savior studying to become a Minister in the Free Methodist Church. During the many years of his service to God, he cared for several churches in the Fenwick area including the Ionia Free Methodist Church. He was a devoted husband and a loving father who enjoyed working with the land and grew a beautiful garden each year.

In addition to his loving wife, Bryan’s dear family will cherish his memory including three children, Rick (Sharon) Shook of California, Sherry (David) Kruithoff of Washington and David (Cheryl) Shook of Fenwick; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Eldora Schmidt; a brother-in-law Arlyn Witherill; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elvis and Elgie Shook, and a daughter-in-law, Verna Jean Shook.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan. On Thursday, visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the Funeral Home followed by the Funeral at 11:00 a.m. with David Shook officiating. Following a luncheon, Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorials are welcomed to the wishes of the family.
