Arthur Alton Perkins

February 4, 1938 — May 29, 2022

Arthur Alton “Art” Perkins, age 84, of Belding experienced his Continuation Day on May 29, 2022, with his loving wife by his side. He is now in the presence of his Lord & Savior. Art was born at home in McBride, Michigan, on February 4, 1938, to Harvey and Viva Irene Perkins. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He went on to serve throughout his life as an Ionia County police officer, part-time fire fighter paramedic and was a proud member of the Ionia Posse, along with his treasured horse “Big Red”. He loved being of service to his community and friends. You could spot him at a store or parking lot where he would thank you for your smile, then hand you a bright yellow business card with a big smiley face on it and the Bible verse, Philippians 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always”. He enjoyed making people happy and giving hugs.

In addition to restoring antique furniture and trunks, he also was an accomplished leatherworker and craftsman. His joy came from creating with his hands.

He was a wonderful, loving husband to his wife, Marcia, whom he married on October 3, 1997, in Renfo Valley, Kentucky. They were soul mates and whenever someone asked, “how long have you two been married?” They would reply, “not long enough!”

A huge thank you to Mission Point of Belding, who took such wonderful, loving care of Art. You went above & beyond, and he appreciated each one of you. Another thank you goes out to the staff at Clay Street Adult Care Center in Greenville, Michigan for filling Art’s days with laughter and joy. Also, thank you to Elara Caring Hospice for their gentle attentive care of Art during his last days on earth.

A Celebration of Life reception will take place on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Verdun Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan 48809.
