Alzena N. “Zeke” Palmateer, age 81, of Belding, passed away on Sunday, November 6, at home under the care of Hospice and her loving family.  She was born on February 24, 1930, in Lodi Township, Ohio, the daughter of Virgil N. and Luzina F (Williams) Shafer.  Zeke, a long term resident of Belding, worked in assembly for Gibson’s Manufacturing in Belding retiring with more that 35 years of service.  She was a league bowler for many years and was an avid Tigers fan.  If she was not home to watch the game it was always taped for viewing later.  Zeke was a former member of the Eagles, American Legion and V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.  She enjoyed the company of family and friends and her two dear pet poodles, Maggie and Sarah.   

 

Zeke’s memory will be cherished by her family and all those who knew her including the “love of her life”, Robert “Mack” McCarthy; daughters Starr Ann (Tony) Palecki of Hemet, California and Joetta Faye (Charlie) DeKlyen of Wyoming, Michigan; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a sister June (Ken) Myers of Hudsonville, Michigan and several nieces and nephews and friends.   

 

Visitation will be held on Monday November 7, from 6-8 p.m. at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan.  A Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ken Harger officiating.  Visitation will also take place for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.  Private interment will take place at River Ridge Cemetery.  Those wishing to express sympathy are welcomed to consider a memorial contribution in Zeke’s memory to Faith Hospice, the Humane Society or the veteran’s organization of the donor’s choice.  Envelopes are available by contacting the funeral home at (616) 794-1300 or www.verdunfh.com.
