Lowell William Iles, age 62, of Belding, passed away on October 10, 2011 at Spectrum Health- Blodgett Hospital following a brief illness, under the loving care of his family and hospice.  Lowell was born in Houston, Texas on December 2, 1948, the son of Lowell Warren and Carmen (Rodriguez) Iles.  He was raised in California and attended high School in Palisades, California.  Following high school, he attended college and earned his RN certification and worked in several nursing capacities during his lifetime.  Most recently, he worked in the Emergency Rooms at Blodgett Hospital and St, Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, from which he retired.   His training did not stop with his initial degree.  He was a lifelong learner in the health care and healing fields of study and earned certifications in Physical Training, Massage Therapy, Yoga, and Pilates just to name a few.  By those who know him he was thought of as a “healer of both the body and the soul” believing that you cannot function at peak performance unless you care for and nurture both.  He met and married Charlyn Sue Todd.  The couple exchanged vows in Stanton, Michigan on January 8, 2010.  He lived in several areas of the United States throughout his lifetime and settled in the Grand Rapids area about twenty-five years ago, moving to Belding just over three years ago.  He enjoyed to travel and loved to visit New Orleans in the summer time.  Since retiring from nursing, Lowell had focused more on his hobby of creating beautiful pottery pieces, and was actively involved in growing a pottery business.

Lowell’s memory will be cherished by his entire family including his  dear wife, Charlyn: his children Matthew (Tonya) Iles of California, Miguel Iles, serving in the Marines, Gene Iles of Belding, Justin Howard “Sage” (Autumn Howard) Iles of Grand Haven, Ashley Stricklan of Belding, Kimberly VanNocker of Portage, and Amanda and Anthony VanNocker both at home; his grandchildren Harper, Rhea, Tatum, Kayleigh, Alixzandria and Xzavier,  He is also survived by several special cousins with whom he spent a lot of time during his childhood years and were very much like brothers and sisters.
