Barbara Jean (Mahlich) Clifford, age 73, of Edmore, formerly of Ionia and Belding, passed away on Friday, September 16, at home surrounded by her loving family following a long illness. She was born on November 29, 1937, in Belding, Michigan the daughter of Victor and Lela (Graham) Mahlich. She graduated from Belding Area Schools with the Class of 1955. Barbara married Glen R. Clifford on June 29, 1968, and he preceded her in death nearly ten years ago. The couple made their home and raised their family in Ionia. She completed nurses training and worked in several nursing capacities at The Laurels in Lowell and Belding Hospital. Barbara was an avid sports fan, following professional and college level sports, including knowing the win loss records and stats of many of the teams and players. She also was a fan of many television programs including the Bachelor and anything on the Food Network. Barbara attended Lakeview Baptist for a time and enjoyed several pass times including knitting.
Barbara’s memory will be cherished by her daughters Jeanne A. (Dale Ritter) Clifford of Edmore and Amy Lynn (Timothy) Hankis of Greenville; two special people who she considered children of her own, Bobbe (Jake) Bauer and Tyrone Terry; grandchildren Russell Dingman, Brianna Dingman, Jennifer Mae Hemminger, Timothy James Leroy Hemminger, Nicholas Bauer, Terry Ann Bauer, Craig Ritter and Kyle Ritter; two sisters, Betty Lou Mahlich and Athelda Gray both of Belding; and a very special friend Shirley Brooks. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Robert Mahlich.
Visitation will be held on Monday September 19, from 6-8 p.m. at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan. A Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Visitation will also take place for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will take place at Orleans Township Cemetery. Those wishing to express sympathy are welcomed to consider a memorial contribution in Barbara’s memory to Hospice of Michigan.
