David “Rick” Eric Wiles age 64, of Grand Rapids, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 29, at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital. He was born on November 12, 1946 in Carson City, Michigan the son of Lloyd and Helen (Garner) Wiles. Rick was a member of the first graduating class of the new Waverly High School in Lansing. Following high school he proudly served in the United States Marines during the Viet Nam war era. He lived in Houghton Lake for a number of years and owned and operated the Duck Inn Bar. He relocated to Grand Rapids in 1993 and has been a sales representative for Auto Clinic Incorporated for 12 years.
He is survived by his children, Tracy (Brian) Myrick of Berkley, Michigan, Gunnery Sgt. Rick Wiles II, currently serving in the United States Marines and John Wiles of St. Louis, Missouri; a granddaughter, Chelsea Myrick; a sister Pam Nilson of Naples, Florida; Lifetime Companion, Susan Strobel of Kentwood; and several nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Gathering will take place from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, at Ronan-Vanderpool-Stegenga Funeral Home, 3131 S. Division Avenue, Wyoming, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express sympathy are welcomed to consider a contribution in Rick’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
