Douglas John Miller, age 75, of Big Rapids, formerly of Cedar Springs, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, March 3. He was born in Grand Rapids, the son of Edwin A. and Vivian (Stout) Miller both of whom preceded him in death. Doug attended St. Alphonsus School in Grand Rapids and worked in Maintenance for many years with Nelson Metals Corporation. He was a die setter with American Die Cast and a supervisor with Condon’s Manufacturing. He married Della E. Pifer and she preceded him in death in 2010. For the last several years, Doug has enjoyed retirement at a beautiful spot on the river near Big Rapids.
Doug is survived by two sons, Douglas E. Miller of Rockford and Darold J. Miller of Kalamazoo; grandchildren Sarah J. Chicky of Rockford, Douglas J. (Liz) Miller of Sand Lake, Amanda J. (Balaji) Miller of Seattle, Washington, Theodore J. (Amber) Miller of Rockford, Shanda (Keith) Hoogerhyde of Sand Lake and Alyssa J. Miller of Rockford; 10 great grandchildren; siblings, Thomas Miller of Comstock Park, Vance Miller of Grant, Bernard (Jeanette) Miller of Big Rapids, Conway Miller of Comstock Park and Darlene (Larry ) Williams of Miles City, Montana, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, a brother, Richard preceded him in death.
A Memorial Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan, with Pastor Phil Bongard officiating. Visitation will take place at the funeral home for two hours prior to the service.
